Eileen O'Connor, MPH, CMPP, CHES
Eileen is a skilled clinical publications professional, with 30 years of experience in medical publishing and scientific communications. She has considerable expertise in the planning and development of scientific publications. As a member of the MedVal/PharmaWrite editorial staff, Eileen will employ this broad knowledge of medical publications in the development of high-quality scientific publications and other deliverables.
At the start of her career, Eileen held positions within medical publishing firms, from Associate Editor at RN Magazine, to Senior Editor at the Journal of Critical Illness and Clinician Reviews. After several years, Eileen assumed editorial positions of increasing responsibility within medical communications agencies, from Managing Editor to Editorial Director, and assumed responsibility for publication plan development and management across a variety of clients and a wide range of therapeutic areas. In these roles, Eileen gained extensive experience producing medical education materials. From an operations perspective, she implemented an editorial group for an expanding agency, and integrated the editorial processes of two merging agencies. Eileen has directly managed editors, writers, project managers, and other staff (including freelancers).
After several years working in agencies, Eileen moved to the pharmaceutical company environment, joining Schering/Merck, where she was Senior Manager of Global Publications, primarily in the areas of Respiratory and Women's Health. Other pharmaceutical company positions included Associate Director, US Publications at Novartis (Dermatology and Cardiology) and Associate Director, Global Publications at Eli Lilly (Oncology, including Early Development). Eileen is adept at developing and executing strategic publication plans, and has done so across a range of therapeutic areas. She possesses a thorough working knowledge of ISMPP, ICMJE and GCP guidelines, and is skilled at using publication management databases (eg, Datavision) as both a project management and compliance tool.
Eileen received a Bachelor's degree in English from City College/CUNY in New York City and a Master's degree in Public Health from Montclair State University in Montclair, New Jersey. She is a member of the American Medical Writers Association, the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals, and the Society of Public Health Educators. She is a Certified Medical Publication Planner (CMPP) and Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES).
